Cannes Film Festival will be starting soon. I will be present this year doing the hair of a couple of beautiful A-list stars, so stay tuned ! Before we move to 2016 best hair, here’s a recap of last year hairstyles with some ” do’s & don’ts tips ” for this year.
The tousled bun of Kendall Jenner : simply lovely as its construction is soft, fresh and young as it should be. The few loose wisps are just enough. If you want to be trendy, last year’s crown buns have moved forward to the top of head for 2016.
Petra Nemcova’s fishtail braid : this has been around for a while and is possibly not the best execution as the braid is very loose. The key is to make this braid tight, often doing 2 rows gives a sharper finish. It’s a great way to achieve the glamour of hair on one side opposed to clipping the side away which often loosens up after some hours. If you must do it, keep the braid tight and sharp !
The low-maintenance hairstyle of Karlie Kloss. Often with haute couture especially if the gown is strict, it’s best just to go “easy ” on the hair. A nice brushing with Iles Formula finishing serum will do the trick. Why this product you may ask ? Because it gives hair a spun silk supple texture. If the hair is supple, it holds whatever shape you give it. Simply apply the finishing serum before blow drying to protect your hair from heated tools and then add a small amount over the finished coiffure to protect your hair from humidity. It also protects from UV and color fade, so it is a pretty important finish.
Lupita Nyong’O : quite lovely hairdo don’t you think ? I love that she maintained her Afro texture. Although structured, it looks fresh and uncluttered of excess product.
Naomi Watts : apart from a few loose hair, the volume is appropriate and the structure is modern.
Barbara Palvin : this chignon is modern because it’s small, not too much volume. It’s a shame her hair looks wet, it would have been so much prettier if it had a spun silk texture and some satin shine.
The back is less attractive, but I feature it as anyone can obtain this at home. Quite frankly to place that sausage inside the back roll would have been much more chic. Your thoughts ?
Julianne Moore : slick with a low side part always look elegant. It’s always about where you place the part – that’s key. Lower rather than higher, I always find that it works better giving a strong asymmetric effect to the hair. Thinking a Twiggy look reminiscence of the 70’s.
Sienna Miller : again the volume and texture, easy to do. Do your hairstyle then with fingers pull on front sections to release them slightly. Add air from you blow dryer to push them into a backward position then spray.
Izabel Goulart : it’s always a dream working with Iza’s hair. Here she wears her hair at its best look, blow dried and tonged toward the center back.
Emma Stone : her hair here is perfection – beautiful spun silk texture on her healthy hair. The color is also magnificent, this is what we expect to see on a red carpet.
Li Bingbing : classic updo, but nicely executed.
Natasha Poly : simply elegant with soft waves and modern take on the classic Veronique Lake’s Hollywood hairdo.
Poppy Delevingne : sweet style with a country spirit.
The back visual is not as appealing as the front. If it were cleaned up by half, this hairstyle would be a better look for the bright lights and camera. Also in Cannes sunlight creates back light which is a killer for hair in photos. This is something one always needs to remember when doing hair for the red carpet, “how will it be photographed”.
Stay tuned as the 2016 Cannes Festival will be taking place soon ! I will have some nice images to share with you.
