Paris Haute Couture

The latest exposition to be seen at is Paris Haute Couture at the town house. I always admire the work put into haute couture, I especially wanted to see this expo as the dress selected for the Paris poster is that of designer Madeleine  Vionnet.

Vionnet was a very famous designer in Paris around the time Coco Chanel was making a name for herself. I feel a certain connection to this lady, although she died way before my time, my french house is in the same small village where she lived, if she was still alive today we would practically be neighbors.

I discovered this only some years after I moved here and since have become very familiar with her designs. In fact of all the dresses in the couture expo hers was my favored, a perfect cut, pure and simple . This dress on the poster is timeless, although  she designed it in 1931 it could be couture of today.

Another of my favorites in the expo was this Christian Dior gown (below ) from 1952, which was made for the Duchess of Windsor. The hand sewn embroidery is made-up of gold and silver threads, pearls, and colored sequins of Swarovski crystals. The hand work is extraordinary.

I often have the chance to work with haute couture and zipped many celebrities into their red carpet gowns. My moment was my wedding day. My dress and shoes were Dior couture. It was as thrilling to open the big white ribboned box my dress was delivered in, as it was to wear that dress made just for me.

The exhibition is free and will be showing until July 6th 2013. Be aware the queues are long, I tried several times over 2 days before finding the courage to wait in line 1 hour before entry.
