IF: Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in hairdressing today?

The biggest challenge today is staying down-to-earth and focusing on yourself, I think. I see more and more people losing themselves, obsessing about things that are unimportant.

IF: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

Being able to travel and work with people I treasure above all else. Being creative and free every single day of my life. Having a job that I am passionate about. It never feels like working, it’s simply doing what I love.

IF: Why did you choose the path of hairdressing and was it easy to fall into this work?

When I was a little boy, I started to cut the hair of all my Barbie dolls. I’ve always been fascinated by hairstyles and hairstylists. To me they have always been artists. I remember my first hairdresser, Salvatore. He was always full of energy and joy, I wanted that for myself.

IF: If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?

I have never imagined myself anything else but a hairdresser. But if I wasn’t, I would probably design hair products. The hairstyling industry needs me, after all :D

IF: What is your greatest strength?

My biggest strength is thinking outside the box. It enables me to create new things and motivate my colleagues to excellence.

IF: Your favorite hairdressing tools?

Apart from my holster, extensions by SeiSeta. And Iles Formula of course ;)

IF: Tell us about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?

How am I supposed to single out one formula, when only combined they deliver optimal results? You don’t have one favorite child!
I first saw Iles Formula on some of my colleagues’ Instagram and was instantly amazed by it. I then visited Iles Formula at their exhibition booth in Düsseldorf. Wendy has been one of my greatest idols for years. I circled around her booth for at least 15 times before I finally took the courage and went in. It felt like meeting the love of your life, your heart rate goes through the roof and you can actually hear your heart beating.
I was so thrilled to meet Wendy and her products. Now I am hooked!

IF: What was the most challenging job you ever made?

I love being challenged, so no job is too difficult for me. Right now, I am working on the most sophisticated one so far. We are creating a couture dress made out of hair. The hair is being tied like in a wig.

IF: What was your worst hair moment and why…. privately or on set/stage or in the salon?

In 2010 I was a contestant at the Trend Vision Award in Paris. During preparations in Vienna, we decided to dye the model’s hair white. Unfortunately, one week before the World Final her hair broke at the parting. We then had to find a new model and new outfit. In Paris, we had to make up for lost time after the rehearsals, night after night. I got no more than 2 hours sleep for a week, we had to get ready on time for the Final. I wouldn’t have made it without my colleague Suzana Santalab. In the end everything worked out. I am very thankful for this experience, it has taught me a lot and made me very relaxed. Since that nothing can throw me off my game.

IF: If you could style anyone’s hair, who would it be and why?

Every single one of my clients is special in its own way. If I could choose anyone, it would be Donald Trump. I think I don’t need to explain why.

IF: Where do you pull hair inspiration from?

My biggest inspiration are my clients. I don’t like chasing trends. I try to create a look together with a client that suits them a hundred percent and bring out what’s inside them. That’s how you create a trend. Others copy that trend and apply it to other individuals. But it’s always going to look best on the person the so-called trend has been created for.

IF: Your advice to young hairdressers starting out?

Always be professional.
Always work twice as hard as everyone else.
Be passionate about every aspect of your job, even if you think it’s bullshit.
Always be friendly and positive, no matter how annoyed you may be.
Stay true to yourself.
Find colleagues who love their job exactly like you do.
Don’t try to copy but try to understand. I have seen people learning a cutting or styling technique by mimicking it, but it is very important to understand what you are doing. Ask yourself: What am I doing right now and why? If you do that, you will get ahead in no time.
Get to know yourself and love yourselves the way you love others.
Creativity comes from trying. Make mistakes and learn from them.
And if you have questions, never be afraid to ask.
