IF:  Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in hairdressing today?

AD:  I feel the biggest challenge today is the level of competition in the industry and being strong in all levels of hairdressing (technical, creative, etc.)

IF:  What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

AD:  The connection I have with my clients is the most enjoyable part, knowing that they trust me and that I have made a positive impact on how they look and feel about themselves. Also, my job allows my creativity to flow freely, especially when working on fashion editorials, which is a true passion of mine.

IF:  Why did you choose the path of hairdressing and was it easy to fall into this work?

AD:  I chose hairdressing because it gave me a wondrous sense of inspiration. Creating, transforming, etc., all appealed to me. Being able to do something I truly loved was key in choosing this field of work. It was not easy falling into this industry but I was very passionate and motivated to pursue it. I wanted to educate myself with one of the best in the industry (Vidal Sassoon Academy) and become successful at what I loved doing.

IF:  If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?

AD:  I studied psychology in school, so perhaps I could have become a psychologist.  My true passion however was in hairdressing. My studies in the field of psychology have been put to good use as a hairstylist though as it plays a big role in communicating with clients.

IF:  What is your greatest strength?

AD:  My greatest strength is haircutting. Seeing as I trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academy for several years, the primary focus was all on haircuts. By creating great haircuts, you have the flexibility to create great hairstyles.

IF:  Your favorite hairdressing tools?

AD:  A good comb and scissor is all I really need to achieve the looks I want (volume, thickness, etc.)

IF:  Tell us about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?

AD:  My relationship with Iles Formula has just initiated through the salon’s Nuva Beauty Spa recent acquisition for Canadian distribution. I truly enjoy the entire Iles Formula 3-step range, particularly the Shampoo as it gives the feeling of a conditioner without necessarily having to use one. The Conditioner is fantastic as it penetrates quickly into the cuticles and when washed out, the shine is noticed immediately. The Finishing Serum is wonderful as well as it gives the texture needed to blow-dry in any way you desire.

IF:  What was the most challenging job you ever made?

AD:  The most challenging job for me is fixing really bad haircuts from unqualified hairstylists. Although out of my control and challenging to fix, I almost always manage to get it done.

IF:  What was your worst hair moment and why….Privately or on set/stage or in the salon?

AD:  My worst hair moment was around 15 years ago during a big show by Wella. I was on stage and accidentally cut myself during a haircut. I had to stop halfway while being filmed. It was quite embarrassing, but unfortunately it happened and I had to deal with it as best I could considering what had happened. A little humor helped!

IF:  If you could style anyone’s hair, who would it be and why?

AD:  I have coiffed several celebrities in Italy but if I would have to choose one person, I would say Jennifer Lopez as I like her positive energy and style.

IF:  Your advice to young hairdressers starting out?

AD:  My advice would be to always believe in themselves and not give up. If they are truly passionate about hairdressing, everything will fall into place over time through commitment and hard work. Most importantly, never stop learning. Continuous education is key!
