Iles Formula Hair Talk with Said Rubaii

Iles Formula introduces Berlin hair master Said Rubaii.

Our founder Wendy Iles first met Said when she used his exquisite salon with white barber style uniforms for the German press launch of our new hair mask. Said has recently won awards for his excellence with cutting and coloring.

1/  Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in a hairdressing career today?
Not to be at a standstill is the biggest challenge nowadays.
You always have to educate yourself about different directions and techniques and busy yourself with art, designs and finishes in every way.

2/ What’s the most enjoyable part of your current job?
I really enjoy that I have the opportunity to spend as much time as I want on a certain topic.
There is no one that limits the time I take for my passion.

3/ Why did you choose the path of hairdressing ?
My family somehow guided me into that direction because my mom also works creatively.
It became apparent when I was a teenager. When I was 14 I did a mandatory internship in classic salon with mainly old women.
None of my classmates chose that but it was fun from the beginning.

4/ If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?
I would have been a fashion designer. I want to have the opportunity to work with various shapes and materials.

5/ What is your greatest strength ?
My ability to stay calm in every stressful situation and manage it.

6/ Your favorite hairdressing tools?
A curling iron & my Mason Pearson brush.

7/ Tell us  about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?
Wendy Iles has always been an idol for me. I already knew her work from different campaigns and shoots and I appreciate that she put this experience into her line.
She is not a big company but rather a person that constantly works with hair so she knows what characteristics a product has to have and how its supposed to feel on the hair of the clients.
My favorite is the finishing serum. It makes the hair incredibly smooth.

8/  New Hair trends ;  Is there something happening with hair right now that is exciting you?
I like that there are more natural and wearable looks.
The hair is not too heavy and stiff anymore.

9/ What was your worst hair moment and why….privatly or on set or in the salon?
Probably the first model in my training.
We were both standing and she was forced to hold her head down the whole time while I cut her long hair.
When she was finally allowed to lift her head again, she was so dizzy that she vomited right on the floor.
My instructor just smiled and said that it was the best lesson to learn that you should always make sure that your client is feeling well.
And yes, it was !

10/ If you could cut and color anyone's hair, who would it be and why?
Vivienne Westwood, because she is true to her style since decades and not chasing every trend. That makes her unique.

11/ Where do you pull hair inspiration from?
Different fashion magazines and, of course, social media.

13/ Your advice to young hairdressers starting out?
If you decided to be a hairdresser,always keep going.
And whenever you have a question, don't be scared to ask someone with more experience.
