Iles Formula Hair Talk Featuring Casey Iles

This week our Iles Formula Hair Talk Featuring Casey Iles hits close to home.  "Casey is my niece says our founder" Wendy Iles. "She  started practicing roller sets and brush outs on my Mother when she was about 8 years old. Within no time she was doing such good work on my Mother's hair, even managed to control her difficult front cowlick! It was eveident at that early age she was going to be a hairdresser to be reckoned with."  She reminded me of me, said Wendy, she lived for hair just like I did at that age.

Today she owns her own  sucessful salon  Serenity Hairdressing in Devonport Tasmania.  Let us present you Casey second generation hairdresser in the Iles Family.

IF:  Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in hairdressing today?

CI:  I think the biggest challenge in hairdressing today are clients expectations of color services. Most clients don’t understand the process of achieving the colors they may want.  This of course can be overcome by a detailed consultation before the color service to educate our clients for what must be done and how long it will take to achieve the final outcome they want.

IF:  What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

CI:  The most enjoyable part for me would have to be the ending where the client is extremely happy and cannot stop looking/touching their hair. It makes me feel fantastic knowing and seeing that they are extremely happy with the outcome!

IF:  Why did you choose the path of hairdressing and was it easy to fall into this work?

CI:  I always wanted to be a hairdresser ever since I can remember! It was because of how successful my Aunty Wendy had become and as a child I wanted to be just like her! It was very easy for me to fall into this career because I am so passionate about it, I loved every minute of the training and was always willing to learn more.

IF:  If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?

CI:  I can’t even imagine what I would have been as I have never thought about being anything else!!

IF:  What is your greatest strength?

CI:  I am very confident when dealing with hair. I have faith in myself and my skills and I think that shows to my clients as they always seem to have faith in me as well.

IF:  Your favorite hairdressing tools?

CI:  My favorite tools would have to be my straightener and clips! Not particularly for straightening but more so for setting curls!

IF:  Tell us  about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?

CI:  I discovered it through my Aunty Wendy of course! I remember being able to try it out before it had been completely finished being formulated.  From then on,  I was in love! My favorite would have to be the Conditioner.   I love how silky and shiny it makes the hair look and feel.

IF:  What was the most challenging job you ever had?

CI:  My most challenging job yet has been becoming a business owner. Before I bought my salon 3 years ago, I had not done any training in business at all, so I threw myself in the deep end.  I have come along way, learned a lot of new skills business wise, and would not have it any other way.

IF:  What was your worst hair moment and why….Privately or on set/stage or in the salon?

CI:  My worst hair moment would have to be my first short haircut! One day my boss at the time of my apprenticeship said to me, today your doing a haircut. My stomach dropped as I had hardly done any training in this yet, all day long I stressed until this appointment, but turned out I knew a lot more that I thought and it turned out perfect .

IF:  If you could style anyones hair, who would it be and why?

CI:  I would love to style Emma Stone’s hair. She always has the most beautiful styles to work with. I don’t think she like most celebrity’s have ever “ruined” their hair.

IF:  Where do you pull  hair inspiration from?

CI:  Social media mostly, some magazines and google.

IF:  Your advice to young hairdressers starting out?

CI:  Have faith in yourself and your ability with hair.  Stress less over little mistakes when learning because one day it will all click and those little frustrating moments don’t exist again.
