Beach waves have been a thing for a while now, and quite honestly it doesn’t seem like they are going anywhere any time soon. Why would they, when you can create so many variations of beach waves just by adjusting the size and type of iron you use. Beach Waves can be created using curling irons, flat irons, braids and more.
Our founder Wendy Iles is renowned for her “organic textured beach waves” as she calls them, seen here on her client Heidi Klum. “Organic” because they must look effortless and feel luscious to the touch. The secret : one product, we are about to tell you which one in A Step By Step Guide To Heidi Klum Beach Waves.
What You Will Need
To create the perfect Beach Waves, it is essential that you use the right tools and products. Proper product usage and tool selection will set you up for success when recreating this look. With that being said, lets talk about some of the items that will be helpful:
Products: There are many products out there and we know it can get confusing when trying to decide which is right for your hair type and the style you want to create. That is why we recommend our Iles Formula Finishing Serum. This is your “go to” product because it is appropriate for all hair types, delivers memory to the hair and makes the hair feel like luscious silk!
Tools: There are different tools you can use to create beach waves. Flat Irons and Curling Irons being the most used for creating these styles. In this step by step, we are featuring the curling iron. Selecting which iron size to use, it’s hair length, and the size curls you want to achieve that will be the deciding factor in which size iron to use. Typically 1 and 1/4 or 1 and 1/2 inch are the desired iron sizes. We love this GHD iron as it works well for this technique, but really any brand of iron will do the job. (Just be sure there is heat control factor on your iron )
Comb: Finally you will need a comb. Not just any comb though. You will want to use a comb with very wide spread teeth. Our Iles Formula Distribution Comb is the perfect size and is included with any of our Signature Box and Spa Sets as well as our Discovery + Travel Set. You will be using the comb to finalize your style.
Step By Step
Now that you have gathered all of what you will need for A Step By Step Guide To Heidi Klum Beach Waves, have a look at the technique.
1./ Begin by drying your hair after applying our Iles Formula Finishing Serum to the mid length and ends. Wendy uses a Dyson or a Harry Josh dryer. This can be somewhat of a rough dry as you want to pull out some of your natural texture to be combined with the texture you create.
For a boost of root volume, flip your head upside down while drying to create more added lift, placing the nozzle of dryer near your roots, blowing them in the opposite direction to the way they naturally fall.
2./ Beginning at the bottom, take 1 inch sections. Place the iron 3 inches from root area, close the tong clamp and twist half to fully around 1 time. We like to make this movement away from the face. Allow it to set for 3 seconds, then move the iron down in a slide movement to about 2 to 3 inches and repeat. In other words there is a gap of no curl between the curl movements you make. Repeat the process again, until you reach the ends, leaving out at least an inch of the ends of your hair. Note the ends should not be curly, but not straight either,so fine tune them by sliding the tong through them, but not curling them.
Allow all of the twists to cool in place.
4./ Once you finished the entire head, use your Iles Formula Distribution Comb to comb out all of the twists you have created. Finalize using your fingers to detail the waves. If you find its a little too curly just blast the hair all over for about 30 seconds with a burst of hot air from your dryer. It works every time.
5./ Apply our Finishing Serum to add separation to the waves, and if you use normally a texture spray, we suggest skip your styling spray and just use more of our serum by piecing it on the strands and allowing it to dry in naturally as Wendy did on Heidi’s beach waves above. This will deliver the most sumptuous touchable texture, and help the style to last all day. Below are some examples sourced from Pinterest of more results you can expect.
