When you fall pregnant, your life suddenly becomes all about the baby that you are carrying. You put your baby’s concerns as the top priorities when you do everything. And everyone around you will start to talk about and tell you what you need to do to make sure that your baby is happy and healthy. However, with all the information you get, some of the advice may conflict with everything you think you know about a healthy pregnancy.

It can be exhausting to deal with all that on your own, let alone the changes that come with growing another human being within your body. That is why embracing self-care is so important while you are pregnant. In order to care for your baby, you need to care for yourself as well as you possibly can. Remember that and let’s go through our main points for your self-care during this joyous time!

1. Talk to Your Doctor

Because your body is changing so much and so quickly, and you are now responsible for another new life, you should always need to talk to your doctor about whether certain activities are still safe for you and your baby.

This applies to different types of heavy exercises, especially if you had not been doing that activity regularly before you got pregnant. Don’t just blindly follow whatever new fitness video is trending online for pregnant ladies – do what is best for you and your baby and all will be safe and sound.

2. Ask for Help

Something many modern women struggle with is asking for help when they need it. We try to do it all from working a full-time job to being a full-time parent, and it’s really hard. Don't be afraid to ask for help from your partner, your family and your friends. Chances are, they would love to help you however they can, whether that’s taking you out to brunch or just watching your other children while you take a much-needed nap.

3. Take Advantage of Massages, Spa Care.

There are tons of options out there for pregnant ladies and parents-to-be when it comes to spa days. They'll often even give you a discount on other types of spa care if you are pregnant or a regular member. Look into the options near you and see what you think would be relaxing!

Note that you may like shiatsu massages or a relaxing acupuncture before your pregnancy – but please check with medical professionals before you commit to any spa services, as not all massages or aromatherapy can be used on pregnant ladies (see previous section on seeing your doctor). Your friends and family may even be willing to pitch in for a gift card to the spa to help you prepare for your impending new arrival.

4. Adjust Your Sleep Space as Needed

You should do whatever you need to do to get a good night’s sleep.  That can mean anything from changing the kind of pillows you use to sleeping on the couch to avoid your partner’s snoring. Your body is going through a lot of changes, so it's not really surprising that you may need to make some changes to your sleep space.

Be kind to yourself and adjust according to your needs. What suits one expectant mother may not be the answer to another – go with your instincts – you know your body best.

5. Try New Things with Your Appearance

If there is something you wanted to try, whether it's a different style of makeup or a new hair color, I recommend that you try it while you are pregnant. Your body is going to be going through so many changes that you can't control, but what you can control are these new styles without having to spend too much energy on them.

Plus, if you don’t like them, they’re very easy to simply take off or redo! This can help you feel much more like yourself in a time of change.

Can you dye your hair while pregnant?

Is it safe to dye hair when you are pregnant? It is one of the most frequently asked questions for expecting mothers as they worry about toxic chemicals in the hair dying products.

According to Dr. Angela Lamb, Director of the Westside Mount Sinai Dermatology Faculty Practice in New York, the chemicals of hair dye do not stay long enough on your skin to be absorbed into the bloodstream in a way that is harmful to a growing fetus.

So the answer is YES, even you are pregnant, you can still dye your hair during those 10 months.

However, if you want to be conservative and extra careful about this, you can use ammonia-free hair dye to practice the safest hair dyeing.

In fact, whether you’re dying hair while pregnant or not, ammonia-free hair coloring or dyeing always has a lower chance to cause irritation or a potential allergic reaction from the product coming in contact with your skin. Take a look at the product labels and try to have a natural hair dye with natural ingredients!

During the pregnancy, there are periods you will not feel comfortable. It is better to plan your hair dyeing schedule in advance to avoid the unstable stage. Last but not least, some say being a mother is the greatest gift of all, so you deserve to pamper yourself and visit your favorite salon for the safest, ammonia-free, environmentally friendly hair dyeing.

Remember, you should try to keep a good mood for the duration of your pregnancy to ensure the safe delivery of a healthy happy baby. Here’s to you!
