Iles Formula Hair Talk with Traci Duff by Iles Formula

IF: Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in hairdressing today?

When hairdressers post photos of hair color with filters and clients want that same exact color. It can be difficult to explain to clients that is not a real hair color, it has been enhanced.

IF: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

Giving clients the best experience possible. When they leave happier than when they arrived.

IF: Why did you choose the path of hairdressing and was it easy to fall into this work?

Originally, I was in school for fashion merchandising to be a buyer. I was a receptionist in a salon while I was in school. I really enjoyed the salon environment and realized hair is fashion and switched over to cosmetology school.

IF: If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?

A Therapist

IF: What is your greatest strength?

Listening Well and making the guest feel safe which in return develops a trust in the relationship for all their hair care needs.

IF: Your favorite hairdressing tools?

My hands- especially with men's haircuts, I don't even use a comb or brush to style the hair, just my hands

IF: Tell us about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?

I was given the products to try by the spa director- I instantly fell in love from the first hair washing. The Shampoo is my favorite with its pleasing scent and creamy consistency that cleanses and repairs the hair thoroughly.

IF: What was the most challenging job you ever made?

I took a level 1 hair color to platinum blonde. We cut it off as well. It took me a total of about 12 hours. We did it in two days.

IF: What was your worst hair moment and why…. privately or on set/stage or in the salon?

I nicked my very first male clients ear. His ears were extra large and I was super nervous. It bled for what seemed like an eternity. I finished the haircut, he was pleased and to this day, 24 years later, he is still a devoted client. We just had a good laugh about it over dinner a few weeks ago.

IF: If you could style anyone’s hair, who would it be and why?

Elvis Presley- I think he had the coolest hair and one of the most trendsetting hairstyles of all time. It would have been exciting to be on the cutting edge of men's hairdressing and to change his variety of hairstyles and his hair color transformation from sandy blonde to black.

IF: Where do you pull hair inspiration from?

When I travel to other countries and cities. I love seeing what the trends are on everyday people especially in London, Paris, Rome, New York, and Los Angeles.

IF: Your advice to young hairdressers starting out?

Learn good communication and listening skills just as much if not more than the technical ones. Hairdressing is about cultivating long-lasting relationships.
Also, try not to take things so personally. Ultimately, we are here to serve others.
