Iles Formula Women : Jorie Grassie

In this week's Iles Formula Women, we welcome Jorie Grassie, Jeweller, Founder and Designer of JORIE. Originally American, Jorie has had a home in the Scottish Highlands for over 20 years together with her Scottish husband and 4 sons where she was inspired by the splendour of the family estate to create The Culachy Collection. Jorie Grassie works with deer tusks and precious stones and has created a 60 piece collection of handmade, limited edition pieces which are a contemporary interpretation of a revived ancient craft. All the tusks used are a bi-product from the stalking of the non-endangered Red Highland Deer Stag, as Scottish law requires the ethical culling of these wild animals to manage their population and allow the species to flourish.

The origin of deer tusk jewellery dates back as far as the Neolithic Age. Prince Albert was known to have commissioned many pieces for his beloved Queen during the Victorian Era in the UK and now Jorie is once again reviving this art using deer tusks stalked within the grounds of The Culachy and neighbouring estates. IF : What is the most inspiring thing you've learned through your job?
JG : It is really okay to make mistakes.

IF : Your favourite destination?
JG : Hong Kong. If you’ve heard of ‘The New York minute’, you must try ‘The Hong Kong second’.

IF : Best fashion inspiration decade?
JG : Art Deco 1930’s hands down. Everything was elegant and luscious then, from Fashion to Interior Design to Jewellery.

IF : If you were to treat yourself what would it be?
JG : A day with nothing planned, but lots achieved.

IF : Your ultimate dinner party guests?
JG : My husband, four sons and Abraham Lincoln dropping by for coffee, dessert and cigars.

IF : Relationship with your hair?
JG : In humid climates, we bicker.

IF : How did you hear about Iles Formula?
JG : Through friends who have become converts.

IF : Do you read direction for use?
JG : I do with skincare and haircare as I want to make sure I’m getting the best out of the products.

IF : Do you read the composition of a product?
JG : To be honest, I do not… I trust the brands I buy.

JG : The Statue since my knee surgery.

IF : What makes you the most happy?
JG : Knowing my boys are safe and sound.

JG : You can be a global leader and still appreciate a gentlemen's courtesy.
