A Step-By-Step Guide To Correctly Maintain A Brazilian Hair Weave

The Brazilian Hair Weave is getting more and more popular recently – it is not surprising as it makes your hair silkier and more luscious. Virgin Brazilian hair is gorgeous and makes for wonderful hair extensions.

You can find a range of styles of Brazillian hair weaves in the market for straight hair or curly hair. There are a variety of choices, like Yaki straight, body wave, deep wave, loose wave and so on, as well as a range in natural colors from black to light brown.

What is a Brazilian Human Hair Weave?

Generally, Brazilian hair on Brazilian hair weaves is collected from donors in the South American region and mostly from small, rural places in Brazil. Donors are paid for growing and then donating natural, strong and healthy hair that is grown in compliance with special requirements (see below for more details).

What is Mink Brazilian Hair?

Mink Brazilian Hair is one of the highest quality virgin hair.  The texture is full, very thick, and the hair cannot have gone through any kind of chemical processing such as perms, any kind of hair dyeing, extensive blow-drying and so on. It must be 100% pure, and it is basically perfect as it is sourced from one donor.

Why is it best to only have your weave hair from one person? Well, simply because everyone’s hair color, texture and hair pattern are slightly different from others. By having a consistent hair color and curl pattern in the hair extensions or hair bundles, it will make your hair look natural and real. However, keep in mind that the price will be relatively higher.

How to wash a Brazilian Hair Weave?

Your Brazilian Hair Weave is made of natural hair, so you should take care of your hair extensions as you would your real hair. Proper care includes brushing, hydration and washing with the right hair care products.

1. Brush before bed and before washing your extensions.

Tangle Taming Tricks:

Slow and steady wins the race here. When it comes to tangles, start from the bottom and work your way up. Work your way slowly, from the tips to the roots, to avoid compounding all the knots and yanking your way through. Use a wide-toothed comb or your fingers, and avoid using a brush unless its a wet brush as this can lead to breakage. If you need a little extra help getting through your tangled tresses, Iles Formula is our recommendation on every level for extensions. Top salons globally suggest the Iles Formula Signature Collection to their extension clients.

2. Use warm water to wash your Brazilian hair weave with sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner

It is crucial to wash your mink extensions with sulfate-free and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner. Sulfates are known to increase sensitivity and may be irritating. Sulfates also strip your hair and extensions from their essential oils. As there’s no direct supply of oils from your scalp into the strands of your weave, using hair products that contain sulfates on your weave is a big no-no.
We recommend you to use the Sulfate-free and Paraben-free award-winning Shampoo, Conditioner and Hair serum below.

  • Every time after you shampoo your Brazilian hair weave, you should condition your hair. Tip:  Final rinsing with cool water will make your hair even more luscious.
  • Attention: Only use a wet brush or large tooth comb on your extensions when they are wet. Hair follicles are vulnerable when the hair is wet.
  • Attention: Avoid using a heavy oil-based product, such as hair oils and essential oils.

Dry Your Hair Extensions Thoroughly

Proper drying of your hair extensions is crucial for both your hair and hair extensions. Drying your hair insufficiently can lead to mold and can escalate to long-term scalp issues. Therefore, you should section your hair with clips and dry your braided hair thoroughly.

Four different ways of drying for different types of extensions:

  1. Hang Dry (Air Dry) for Clip-in extensions
  2. Hair Diffuser for Sewn-in extensions
  3. Hooded Hairdryer for Sewn-in extensions
  4. Blow Dry for Clip-ins, fusion Clip-ins, Tape-in extensions, and hair bonding

Make sure all the hair (both your own and your weave) and the wefts are completely dry before going to bed, otherwise you will wake up with smelly hair, it also encourages buildup on the scalp.

Styling your Brazilian Hair Weave

  • Apply heat protectants before using any hot tools.
  • Avoid using hair styling products that contain short-chain alcohols and sulfates that will dry out your hair in the long-term, such as hair gels, hairsprays, hair styling clays, etc.
