Iles Formula is pleased to introduce Dan Bro from his exquisite "one on one" Salon Raah, in the centre of Copenhagen, Denmark. Read more to hear Dan's comments on hairdressing and the business today.
IF: Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in hairdressing today?
DB: The big companies are giving huge discounts to larger salons and less or none to smaller salons. In the end the smaller salons cannot be as competitive.
IF: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?
DB: Spending time with people that love my work.
IF: Why did you choose the path of hairdressing and was it easy to fall into this work?
DB: I´ve always known this was my path. I started as a shampoo-boy when I was 15 yrs old.
IF: If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?
DB: I would have been a Furniture Carpenter. I love the smell and touch of wood.
IF: What is your greatest strength?
DB: Being present, listening and of course my round brush.
IF: Your favourite hairdressing tools?
DB: Iles Formula Finishing Serum and my round brush.
IF: Tell us about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?
DB: One Black car (distributor in Denmark), showed me the bottles and packaging and I loved it even before I tried it. After my first time trying Iles Formula, I loved it even more.
IF: What was the most challenging job you ever made ?
DB: I did hair and make-up on a pop-star 25 year ago. We did not get along very well.
IF: What was your worst hair moment and why….privately or on set/stage or in the salon?
DB: I did highlights on a client and had bleeding from the color. I never told her. To this day, I regret not informing her of the issue and fixing it for her.
IF: If you could style anyones hair, who would it be and why?
DB: I have two women. First, Madonna for being an amazing ambassador for humanity, and her music has been the sound track to my life. Second, Iris Apfel just because she's Iris Apfel.
IF: Where do you pull hair inspiration from?
DB: Iles Formula Masterclass, Instagram, Pintarest and other Hairdressers.
IF: Your advice to young hairdressers starting out?
DB: Know the basics before adding on new skills. Slow down. You can not become a star overnight.
