IF: Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in hairdressing today?
Staying inspired and creative.
IF: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?
Making something out of nothing. I love when clients come to me with no hope or vision for their hair and themselves, and they leave the salon looking and feeling way better than they ever imagined. Makes for a warm fuzzy feeling all around.
IF: Why did you choose the path of hairdressing and was it easy to fall into this work?
It started when I was 7 years old. I was in the car with my step mom and I was playing with a tassle or something and I figured out how to braid it. I was like “woah mom look at this!” She was like “Nice braid!” After that I began to braid everyones hair. The rest is history. Funny thing now is, I suck at braiding.
IF: If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?
I was always fascinated with space and stars from a young age, so maybe an Aerospace Engineer? I also love Marine Biology, and Interior Design.
IF: What is your greatest strength?
Adapting to any situation and personality type.
IF: Your favorite hairdressing tools?
My Dyson Supersonic Blow Dryer and Framar Big Daddy Brush.
IF: Tell us about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?
I was introduced to Iles Formula when I worked in a salon in Sydney, Australia. I fell in love with the fragrance, then loved how it performed. My favorite formula is definitely Number 3, the Finishing Serum. So good for taking care of that Hawai’i Hair.
IF: What was the most challenging job you ever made?
Moving abroad and working with an entirely different clientele and style of doing hair.
IF: What was your worst hair moment and why…. privately or on set/stage or in the salon?
It was probably when I was in High School. I was brushing my friends hair in class with a round brush, and it got stuck in her hair. Naturally she freaked out and so did I. We spent at least and hour trying to get it out. It was scary at the time but hilarious now. Love you P!
IF: If you could style anyone’s hair, who would it be and why?
My biological mother. She passed away before I got to meet her, but it would of been cool to see what kind of styles she would have liked! Everyone says we are similar.
IF: Where do you pull hair inspiration from?
All my friends with amazing natural sunkissed hi-lights! And Instagram! Im constantly scrolling for inspiration from my favorite stylists.
IF: Your advice to young hairdressers starting out?
Always give 200% in everything you do. Never get lazy. Do whatever it takes to keep you inspired. Go on trips, see the world. Learn about different people, cultures. It will all only make you more knowledgable and help you understand how to cater to more people and styles. Oh and always know that whatever you’re not willing to do, someone else is! Also never take anything personal in this industry.
