We welcome this week on Iles Formula Hair Talk from the heart of Odense, Denmark, Charlotte and Dorte co owners of DD Art of Hair . Hear what they have to say about hair and salon business today.
IF: Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in hairdressing today?
DD: To find exclusive products that are not going to be sold in big stores with discounts, and in addition to performing in our work as a hairstylist, we must also now do social media.
IF: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?
DD: Freedom to be creative, make people beautiful and see their smile on their face when then they see the result.
IF: Why did you choose the path of hairdressing and was it easy to fall into this work?
DD: The path chooses us, we can’t find any words for that.
IF: If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?
DD: Something else creative, maybe an architect, florist or ceramist.
IF: What is your greatest strength?
DD: That we are open minded, have a natural sense for fashion, and love to work with people.
IF: Your favorite hairdressing tools?
DD: It varies, sometime the razor sometime the scissor , it depends what look we want.
IF: Tell us about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?
DD: We met Wendy at a Masterclass in Berlin, where she gave us a sample of her Shampoo, Conditioner and the Serum, and we fell in love. The fun story is that the Danish distributor was in our salon at the same time in DK to present Iles Formula.
IF: What was the most challenging job you ever made?
DD: Wedding hair, it always gives butterflies in the stomach.
IF: What was your worst hair moment and why….Privately or on set/stage or in the salon?
DD: I am sure there is something, however, we are very good at trying to forget a situation like this quickly.
IF: If you could style anyones hair, who would it be and why?
DD: Patti Smith, Isabel Marant, or our Danish Princess Mary. They are all strong woman that would be inspiring to have in the chair.
IF: Where do you pull hair inspiration from?
DD: Everywhere, courses in Denmark, Europe and US Magazines, movies, books, Pinterest….
IF: Your advice to young hairdressers starting out?
DD: Be open, be curious, and remember, you will never be too clever or too old to learn something new – stay hungry!
