Asha has been in the hairdressing industry for 9 years. Working in a leading salon in Auckland, New Zealand while also studying Advance Cosmetic Science. Asha’s passion has also lead her to begin her journey to start her own haircare business in the future.

IF: What would you term as your specialty within your trade?
AM: I would term my specialty as cutting and styling. Cutting hair excites me as it’s an instant transformation and a forte I naturally gravitated towards. My passion for styling came soon after that.
AM: As a hairstylist we have the power to awaken the beauty within. I love the finishing of a hair makeover when the clients can see how beautiful they really are!
IF: Why did you choose the path of hairdressing and was it easy to fall into this work?
AM: I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser from the age of 10 having been exposed to the creative styling process during my years in amateur theatre. My neighbor also owned a salon and I would accompany my Mum to her appointments, sweeping the floor. I was hungry and eager to learn from a young age.
IF: If you had not made the decision to be a hairdresser what would you have been?
AM: I have always loved being creative so would have do something in fashion design which is another passion of mine.
IF: What would you say has been your career defining moment?
AM: Doing Educational Styling for clients. It was so empowering showing them little tricks and techniques using a variety of hot tools. Whenever I can I enjoy attending these events.
IF: Your favorite hairdressing tools?
AM: A soft curl tong. It’s versatile and is used frequently in 2022 to achieve an on-trend, effortless look.
IF: Tell us about your relationship with ILES FORMULA. How did you discover us and which formula is your favorite?
AM: I discovered Iles Formula 3 years ago while working in a salon and I was instantly hooked! I fell in love with their philosophy of producing maximum performance with a minimalist approach. After using the signature collection on clients, the hair looked restored and shiny every time.
IF: What was the most challenging job you ever had?
AM: Creating the perfect tight S waves on set for a Runway Fashion Show in a short amount of time. Luckily, I managed to perfect the desired look in the correct time frame.
IF: What was your worst hair moment and why....privately or on set/stage or in the salon?
AM: My worst hair moment was taking an actress’s hair color too dark and I spent a lot of time removing the depth. Luckily it turned out fine in the end and she was delighted with the result.
IF: If you could style anyone’s hair, who would it be and why?
AM: Kate Moss has incredible hair. She is a classic beauty and I love how her signature look will never go out of style.
IF: Where do you pull all hair inspiration from?
AM: I enjoy reading Vogue, Bazaar and W. I find flicking through magazines gives you instant inspiration on hair and fashion and keeps you up to date with what’s on trend.
IF: What is the most inspiring thing you've learnt at your job?
AM: French, free hand paint Balayage. It’s a technique I learnt early on in my career and I still use this technique to create a soft balayage with a blend.
IF: Finally, if you were to share one beauty tip with us today, what would it be?
AM: Wear SPF on your skin daily. Sun exposure is the most visible signs of ageing for your skin.
