Iles Formula Hair Talk with Nicholas Roach

We are pleased to introduce you this week to master of cuts Nicholas Roach who was one of the original Educators at Bumble and Bumble University in NYC when the school opened in 2002 and delivered Razor Mastery and Backstage Editorial education to the vast network of salon stylists who visited the NYC school for 10+ years. He was Director of Education for Bumble Live program where he led the field team of lead stylists who traveled and educated in salons across cities in the US for 10 years. Now he has opened his own salon Sweet Jane Salon in San Diego and has education programs partnered with brands like Pony and Lost Hairdressers to bring advanced cutting and styling to stylists who are beyond the “big brand” hair philosophy.

IF: Tell us what you think is the biggest challenge in hairdressing today?

A rigorous determination to stay true to one's own art, and to avoid being swayed by what’s culturally popular. What I have learned from the many hair heroes I admire is Its about finding your own voice.

IF: What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?

Relationship building and educating.

My hands, a Mason Pearson, and my Dyson.

IF: Tell us about your relationship with Iles Formula. How you discovered us and which formula is your favorite?

I discovered it through a class I was teaching at Lost Hairdressers in Dallas, tried it and became obsessed with the performance and knew it was niche and would speak to my clients.
