So what does dry shampoo actually do?

A dry shampoo is absorbing. Most dry shampoos work by laying starch, clay or talc across the scalp to soak up oil, then leaving it there. The oil goes, and something else takes its place. That something is residue — and residue weighs down your hair and suffocates your scalp.

So the hair looks matte instead of oily, which reads as clean. But nothing has been cleaned. Something has been added to the hair, and it will still be there tomorrow, and the day after, until it is washed out.

Why the root and not the lengths?

Because that is where the problem starts.

A second-day head is rarely dirty. But it does tend to look flat. The oil sits at the scalp, the crown collapses, and the hair reads as tired — while the mid-lengths and ends look perfectly fine.

So you treat the root. You do not touch the lengths, and you certainly do not cut them off. The ends carry your history; they are the part of the hair you cannot get back. Refresh the root, and the rest is already there.

How do you use the Rinseless Root Refresh?

Section the hair at the crown and along the parting. Apply directly to the root — close, and lightly massage in. Leave the lengths alone.

Add heat, always — blow-dry the roots in the opposite direction. Brush with the fingers first, then a brush. That is it. No rinsing. No waiting.
