Style your hair like Ivete Sangalo.
Style your hair like Ivete Sangalo.
I promised my followers an article on how to do soft waves. Since I’m working this week with #IveteSangalo in Bahia, Brasil, I thought there is no better person for my muse than Ivete herself, to inspire your soft wave look.
The secret of doing these waves is to break them down and make them look natural. I never use any product for this, just my Formulas. Part of the glamour is the spun silk texture of the hair. On the contrary, mousse almost always makes the hair scrunchy and hairspray makes the hair stiff.
1/ Blow-dry your hair with a round brush lifting the roots to create some volume. Be sure your hair is thoroughly dry.
2/ Choose a large barrel curling iron. I think it’s easier to use a wand with a spring clamp. This way the hair ends stay securely in place and the hair is easier to wind around the barrel. Nothing is worse than ends that look like fishhooks!
3/ Take long vertical sections starting at the hairline and working towards the back. Roll the hair around the iron in a direction toward the center back. Hold for a few seconds until the heat penetrates evenly, then remove the iron. Roll this vertical section in the same direction around two fingers toward the back and clip it in place with a long section clip until it cools. I find that metal clips hold more securely than plastic ones, especially if your hair is long and heavy.
4/ Once the hair is cold, drop the hair down. If it’s too curly, use my method of pulling the hair together at the back of the head, then wind it in a clockwise direction to form a sausage effect. Clip this by anchoring the ends on top of the head. Let it sit about 15 minutes while putting on your makeup. This will allow the curls to loosen into a perfect natural wave.
Enjoy!
