Like a James Bond Girl
Believe it or not with all the traveling I have done there are  still 2 or 3 destinations that I've not yet visited and that I'm curious about, Chili was one of them.  So when one of my preferred film directors, Claudio Droguett, contacted me to work in Santiago for L'Oréal, I jumped at it.. The job was a challenge, lots of complicated hair tricks involving wind and helicopters on the roof of the W Hotel down town.At the same time there was an international summit with Angela Merkel Germany's Chancellor... Mirage on the Polish Sand Dunes
The magic of the film world is to pretend to be anywhere we are not. This last week I  was shooting in Poland, a hair commercial on the dunes. For sure a trip to the desert would have been more exciting than the 0 degree frosty temperature of Warsaw. The compensation being: we were snung and warm in a big studio with controlled light and more importantly controlled wind. This made my job on hair perfection much easier. A lot to be said for set decorators. Next week its a... Read more...
Starting with the Stars
A fun way to start my year with a business trip to Beverly Hills. Departing the cold, rainy, grey days of  Paris arriving to a picture perfect Beverly Hills climate. No wonder the gardens are all spectacular, vivid green and film set perfect, the weather here is phenomenal.Between business meetings I had time to stroll Rodeo drive, where I discovered a great paper shop "Paper Source" on Brighton Way stocking up on interesting cards and gift paper. I shared a fun moment with old friends at Ado an Italian restaurant at Venice Beach, an unassuming... Read more...
The Black Box Project
To turn the page on 2012 I have chosen to tell you about an original work which was exhibited around the world  last year, The Black Box Project. It was the idea of the advertising agency Schindler Parent for the swedish paper company IGGESUND. They  choose 5 creative directors amongst the hottest ones of the moment. Marc Benhamou was one of them and he engaged  me to be part of his team along with Philippe Salomon as the photographer. The concept was to fill up the black box!Marc,s idea was to... Read more...
Hammam, one says it's relaxing...
Every once in a while there is a job which becomes a nightmare. I believe it's the same in most work  situations no matter where it comes from, the task itself or due to external elements like weather, strikes, etc… Istanbul this week was probably a good location for an advertising shoot mid December , not too far away from London, milder climate and "exotic". The crew were perfect so was the choice of the hotel, Kempinski Palace my favorite hotel chain .The photo above is the roof of the... Read more...
Arabian Nights
Do you believe that sometimes reality overtakes the fiction? I do, especially after last week spent in the Arabian Nights Kingdom where I went for a Royal wedding. It was surreal, from the first class Arabian flight which exceeded in luxury and comfort if compared to the usual Air France Business treat, to the drive through the dessert to a remote and paradisiac oasis. With my work it is sometimes impossible to document it with a camera, unfortunately  this job was one of those occasions. It was such feast for the... Read more...
Rock, Paper and Scissors
I'm always looking for threads of information that will inspire me one way or another. On a visit to Beaubourg in Paris I stumbled across this Fernand Leger painting, "La lecture " (1924). I really love the way he paints hair and I keep also books on him as reference, waiting for the right moment."Rock, Paper and Scissors" is what I came with. All the hair was created from paper which I painted like hair strands, then cut  forms to resemble a hair style. The clothes and accesories were made also from ... Read more...
New Blood Contest
Thank you to all of you who entered with such enthusiasm to the New Blood contest. So many wonderful images, it was difficult to choose who to feature first. Here are two entries from Sydney and London.Dario Chicco (picture on the right) …Australians look at this closely, what do you see ? Very cleverly  drawn by Sydney hairdresser Dario Chicco, known for his technique of naturally dried haircuts. Here is a lovely video on Dario working. Click here. Lily Bertrand-Webb (pictures above and on the right)I like a lot the hair texture... Read more...
A Day in Bristol with Martin Parr
© 1997 Martin ParrFor me the secret of traveling is not where I'm going but who I'm meeting and what I'm doing there. So even if Bristol wouldn't be the city I'd choose to go to for a great time, it's where I just spent a great Monday.  Imagine, who's a better guide than Martin Parr himself to introduce me to that little corner of England. I've already mentioned to you on my blog how much I like his work. I have visited his exhibitions, collected his books and here I... Read more...

A Magic Moment
I want to share with you a Magic Moment.I'm at home in my office, prepping for 2 jobs, answering urgent emails, trying to get a Fedex collected on time, business taking over as usual. Maurice the gardener called me and as I stepped outside, I heard the quacking of the geese flying over our garden. They are on their way to the south for winter. Moments like these make me remember how beautiful nature is  and that it offers us so many simple but great pleasures.I wish the geese a... Read more...
An erratic week
Have you ever experienced such planning chaos? Friday of last week it was planned I fly to Rio for a 4 days job then go back to LA for an interview before heading to India for a 5 days hair campaign. Tight schedule but that's usual. Then came Sandy's hurricane effect in the US and to top that off, the snow storm hitting NY and blocking photographers, directors and crew. While this had  devastating consequences for those directly concerned, it also threw me a million miles away in Paris into chaos. As... Read more...
